Hey there
[edit]Hope you decide to stick around for a while, we need some more good Lithuanian editing. I've made a lot of templates and such for conjugation and declension, so if you have any questions about formatting entries, just ask me. We've got a pretty good set of examples, but Lithuanian has a lot of words :D — [ R·I·C ] opiaterein — 21:41, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

A belated welcome
[edit]You've been here longer than I have, but you don't seem to know some very basic things about Wiktionary formatting, and you should have known that Lithuanian templates don't work for Polish. It's a shame, because we need all the help we can get with Lithuanian. Here's our welcome template with links to the information you need. Pay particular attention to our Entry layout page, and it wouldn't hurt to look through our page about Polish.
Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Chuck Entz (talk) 22:50, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
User:Chuck Entz: Thank you, but no thank you. My main work is with wikipedia. I tried to add a couple of rather rare entries to wiktionary. I am not going to waste my time on learning all grammar/formating rules for this (I would certainly have done this if I decided to make wiktionary an important part of my life.) I was thinking along the lines: this is a cooperative project: I supply missing knowledge, someone well versed in wiktionary ways formats it properly. But Unexpectedly I was met with outright rudeness: my contrib was called BS and not stopping at that. So I will continue doing what I can and if someone deletes it, DGAF. - Your first response to somebody requesting verfiication for your entry was to saying "Learn how to read in Polish". Now, you seem to be implying that we should clear up the messes you've made because you've graciously decided to supply us with your (dubious) knowledge.
- If you aren't interested in learning how to contribute properly (i.e. like everyone else), then please don't waste our time by doing it wrong. On the other hand, if you make the effort to learn, then we'll be more than happy to help. You'll find that most communities - including Wikipedia - work in the same way, because a willingness to learn is part of basic politeness. Theknightwho (talk) 17:57, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, it was my first response to someone who called my contribution bullshit. I am fed up with your corporate mutual defense (sorry' I don't know a concise English word). I will continue to do what I do, see my response above. And while your "most" communities may be work this way, in English Wikipedia we take an atrocious newcomer's article, and if it has useful info, we usually work to improve it without calling it bullshit. Well, at least that's what I do (unless it is a promo; in this case I simply put it for deletion without calling names). I will no longer respond to this accusative thread. - It's not a "corporate mutual defense" - it's several experienced users independently telling you that you are taking the wrong approach. Reading the entry from when it got nominated, it looks like something that would clearly be excluded under WT:FICTION. It's only since then that it's become apparent that this may be worthy of inclusion. Theknightwho (talk) 19:11, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
- W:FICTION is not the same as BS, right? If this rude person used the proper term in the first place, I would have readily understand the issue and whole hit would not hit the fan. Instead them started playing grammar nazi thing. Of course I had no want to cooperate. Good luck with corporate defense. Lokys dar Vienas (talk) 22:03, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
