Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Ultimateria (talk) 16:45, 12 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

You've been pretty good about fixing your module errors, but you seem to have missed one. Chuck Entz (talk) 19:30, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Chuck Entz oops, thank you Exarchus (talk) 19:34, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hymns by Plethon

[edit]

What do you think of the idea of translating the hymns by Plethon into any traditional language of Europe? -- Apisite (talk) 22:37, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Apisite Hi, I know very little about Plethon. Do you know some Greek yourself? I see Plethon uses non-Attic Greek and this could be a difficulty. There might actually be errors in Wiktionary's conjugation of Epic Greek, I think 'Γείναο' from the first hymn is middle indicative aorist 2sg. of γείνομαι (geínomai), currently indicated as γείνω for Epic Greek. Websites references

[edit]

I noticed you adding raw links to websites as references. Looking beyond the credibility of websites as sources, please use {{cite-web}} when you do. Thanks. --{{victar|talk}} 01:48, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Can you please place citations directly after what you are citing, i.e. inside a {{q}}, if that's where the information is. Thanks. --{{victar|talk}} 18:28, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I made an edit, wasn't aware this was important. Exarchus (talk) 18:35, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
As web pages often don't confirm to the model of 'article x in magazine y on date z' and as adding references is not a long-standing habit of mine, I never did a great effort of figuring out how I'm supposed to quote them. I'll edit the fála page though. Exarchus (talk) 19:13, 22 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Apabhramsa declension module

[edit]

Hi Exarchus. Since you seem knowledgable about modules and Lua, will you be able to code it into Module:inc-apa-decl/noun to allow parameters like |nom_s=, etc. for specifying exceptional forms in declensions, just like the Sanskrit ones like {{sa-decl-noun-n}} do? Svartava (talk) 04:11, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Svartava You shouldn't overestimate my knowledge of Lua, I'm mostly just copying what others do. What I would try is to copy the logic of the sa-decl module, so introducing 'params'. Have you tried that already? Exarchus (talk) 08:58, 24 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

WT:RFM

[edit]

You've been moving PIE and other reconstructions entries without discussion. Please make use of WT:RFM in the future. --{{victar|talk}} 18:21, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'll think about it in the future, but to avoid misunderstandings I'll mention that the move from *ǵʰer- to *gʰer- was already requested there.
The move from PBS ślā́ˀwāˀ to ślṓˀwāˀ was discussed with Djkcel.
I moved some others without discussion, yes. I do wonder (I'm not assuming something here) whether there was a discussion to move *priHós to *priHyós. Exarchus (talk) 18:43, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
