How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

අද්ධානමග්ග

[edit]

You added this Pali word back in 2016. Do you have evidence for its intended use without touching letters or conjuncts? We do have the form with touching letters - අද‍්ධානමග‍්ග (addhānamagga). At present, its automated declension seems very wrong - the stem uses visible AL-LAKUNA, but the inflections use touching letters or conjuncts (e.g. the dubious අද්ධානමග්ගත්‍ථං (addhānamaggatthaṃ), which I think is a compound or sum of parts if it indeed exists with some spelling). Feel free to escalate the spelling issue to the Beer Parlour. --RichardW57m (talk) 10:47, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@RichardW57m: Thank you for bringing this to my attention, it seemed to be a simple misspelling (with the likeliest explanation being that's what the module generated back in 2016, which was corrected in 2018), so I've deleted it. I have no expertise at all in Pali, and in the font I'm using they look really similar to me. --kc_kennylau (talk) 11:34, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. --RichardW57m (talk) 11:35, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

your changes to Module:zh-usex caused lots of breakage. I'm going to revert. Benwing2 (talk) 03:46, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I'm sorry, I'll try to fix it. Thanks for letting me know. --kc_kennylau (talk) 03:48, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
There are a couple of 2014 discussions now in CAT:E because they're using old features of your sandboxes. Please fix them. Thanks! Chuck Entz (talk) 17:41, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have escaped those usages in the discussions. --kc_kennylau (talk) 18:55, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Inquiry about Wu Pronunciation Update Script

[edit]

Hello. In early June, the English Wiktionary updated the Wu Chinese pronunciation module, which led to corresponding changes in the Wu parameter of {{zh-pron}} . I noticed that this was executed by your bot. Recently, the Chinese Wiktionary has undergone the same update, and I would like to ask if you have a script available for this update. TongcyDai (talk) 15:02, 30 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@TongcyDai: I have uploaded the script to [1]. Use at your own risk (a lot of the code would have to be changed, and I do not guarantee the correctness of the output, and I do not know about the bot policies on zh.wikt). --kc_kennylau (talk) 15:19, 30 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much! --TongcyDai (talk) 15:20, 30 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

That change seems to cause a redlink to appear beneath the desired header text when the term in question has no entry. See, for example, Citations:Chalicodoma, which has, under the header text “Translingual citations of Chalicodoma”, the redlink “Chalicodoma” (link text sic). 0DF (talk) 00:09, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@0DF: Thanks, fixed. --kc_kennylau (talk) 00:26, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
