- It looks like thực here and in nhật thực (solar eclipse) derive from either 食 or 蚀 / 蝕 in Chinese with eat having the sense of nibble away at. However, https://hvdic.thivien.net/ has entries for 月蚀 / 月蝕 but not for 月食 and similarly for solar eclipse. Gavinkwhite (talk) 02:38, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
