Vietnamese. According to @PhanAnh123: "Need clarification, both etymologies. The first one is a proper noun so it would most often be spelled with capitalization. The second etymology is even more suspect, it probably means to be a part as chu choa mẹc/chu choa mẹt or chèn mẹc/chèn mẹt, but in that case, I can see no French here, and, as a component of interjections and hardly ever used a stand-alone morpheme (although, due to clipping, there're indeed a couple attestations of mẹc ơi) and is questionable if it even has any meaning on its own, I am not sure if I would even consider it a lemma." --ChemPro (talk) 23:28, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- Regarding the first one, yes it should be in capital so it should be in a separate page.
- I'm quite sure I've heard it used before (which doesn't count I guess), though it becomes rarer, this should probably be marked as "dated". Web search results mostly list this ca dao that describe a French person speaking rather than used in Vietnamese, but I also found this article that list an old phrase in Vietnamese and in a story using it in an exclamation. There's also the dictionary entry linked in the reference.
