@Gubazes, კვარია, before I don my scuba set and dive, can you tell me if the forḳa ~ foga alternation points to an original form with an -r- or without it? Vahag (talk) 08:29, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- If this were a Mingrelian word, it would be hard to tell which one is original without external data. Perhaps Laz is different? კვარია (talk) 09:56, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- It's difficult to say. Both deletion and addition of r are possible, but deletion is more likely to happen in central and eastern dialects. While addition is more likely in western dialects, it is quite the opposite of the situation here. Gubazes (talk) 14:39, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Gubazes, can the diminutive suffix of ჶოგინა (fogina) be explained within Laz? Vahag (talk) 17:26, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- diminutive suffix -ინა (-ina) is used in western dialects and highly productive too. It also used in Central dialects too but it's usage is rare there. Gubazes (talk) 18:11, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

I have collected the Greek φόρ- (fór-) words at φόρεμα (fórema). I don't think any of them can explain the Laz. The other languages do not have anything to offer. If you can explain this is a non-palatalized form of native ფორჩა (porça), then we can close the matter. --Vahag (talk) 14:14, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- User:Vahagn Petrosyan Palatilization happens before front vowels. If the palatization did occur somehow, why do we still have the word ჶორკა (forǩa). I found a Megrelian verb ფორუა (porua, “to cover”). So maybe a common Zan root? But I still can not explain the -კა (-ǩa) as a derivational suffix. Gubazes (talk) 13:40, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know anything about Kartvelian morphology or sound laws, so I can't help you. But I find it hard to separate this from ფორჩა (porça), which has the same meaning. Many dictionaries gloss the latter as "კაბა" or "elbise", not just "shirt". See also these snippets. Vahag (talk) 14:12, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
