@კვარია what is the first century of attestation? --Vahag (talk) 23:41, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Vahagn_Petrosyan: This is in Shatberdi and Tetraevangelium. I can't for the life of me figure out how to use titus website, that thing is too retro-ish, and it's annoying that it's always in the top hits for search კვარია (talk) 07:55, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Vahagn_Petrosyan: so Adysh Gospels, I'm a little bit unclear on which century that would be though. This should mean something like "vine shoot" I guess კვარია (talk) 16:28, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- You can use the corpus at https://clarino.uib.no/gnc/page?page-id=gnc-main-page to find the earliest attestation. By the way, can you check if the Svan keeps the more basic meaning ("shoot of any plant") as claimed by Marr 1915? Vahag (talk) 22:28, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Vahagn_Petrosyan: Not in Topuria, but according to Oniani and Dondua, they translate ლობიო უ̂აზ (lobio ûaz) as "shoot of bean". Another example they give is ფშალა̄ჲ უ̂აზ (pšalāy ûaz), which they translate as "shoot of humulus lupulus", but according to Topuria the primary meaning of ფშალა̄ჲ (pšalāy) in Svan is "young; sprout, shoot", so he translates the same ფშალა̄ჲ უ̂აზ (pšalāy ûaz) as "grapevine sprout". None the sources give _actual_ usage examples, which I'll need to settle this for sure კვარია (talk) 23:21, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for checking. Vahag (talk) 20:46, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

I have no idea why the article suggested that ვაზი replaced ვენაჴი; the modern form of the latter (ვენახი) is even more common in speech and in corpora than ვაზი. Klimov's understanding of the Kartvelological literature (and Georgian generally) left a lot to be desired. Trwier (talk) 12:10, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
