[edit]@Profes.I. Is there a source for this? {{R:xaa:ELA|II|page=649}}
derives from Egyptian. Also, is Middle Persian SLQ attested? --Vahag (talk) 09:06, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- There is for both; as a loanword from Greek and such an etymology is mentioned under entry 'silqu b' in volume 15 's' of the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary (CAD), which cites Löw further; SLQ being a 'Pehlevi ideogram' is mentioned in entry 'slq', on the Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon Project (CAL), citing the Dictionary of the North-West Semitic Inscriptions (DNWSI). --Profes.I. - @Profes.I.: thanks. From what I understand, the Arameogram is attested only in Frahang i Pahlavik in the form SLKʾ, here. So there is no *SLQ. --Vahag (talk) 11:31, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- Good find, you are right, yes it should be SLKʾ instead. --Profes.I. (talk) 11:48, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
- But that’s attested, it is observed here, so no star should be set at the transliteration. Fay Freak (talk) 12:54, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
