Probably from Iranian, compare Persian باک (bâk, “fear”) from MP wāg/wāk (it is not from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰayH- as mentioned in باک). I also found Northern Kurdish pax (“fear”).--Calak (talk) 13:25, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Calak: the comparison with Persian is known. պակ-ն-ում (pak-n-um) and պախ-իմ (pax-im, “to fear”) too are usually compared. What's the source for MP wāg/wāk and what is the origin of the Persian? --Vahag (talk) 14:18, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
The origin of the Persian باک (bâk) is MP wāg/k. MP wāg/k attested in w:Denkard#Book_6 and w:Shāyest nē Shāyest: further etymology unknown (this is my source, p16).--Calak (talk) 14:39, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
