@Fay Freak, I was going to connect this with Arabic حَنَش (ḥanaš, “snake”), but then I noticed Kerestedjian's comparison with Arabic خُنْثَى‎ (ḵunṯā, “hermaphrodite”). Would an Aramaic cognate of the latter be a good fit? --Vahag (talk) 20:08, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

@Vahagn Petrosyan: We talked about this word already at Talk:խնջլոզ. It is a variant of أُنْثَى (ʔunṯā), where you see Aramaic cognates, according to Corriente, Federico, Pereira, Christophe, Vicente, Angeles, editors (2017), Dictionnaire du faisceau dialectal arabe andalou. Perspectives phraséologiques et étymologiques (in French), Berlin: De Gruyter, →ISBN, page 437 a blend of it with أَخ (ʔaḵ), and it does not occur with ḫ in other Semitic languages. The last consonant can be in Old Aramaic š instead of later t (ṯ with begedkefet), little so in other Aramaic lects (but compare ش و ب, Talk:شوب, theoretically in unknown ones), I don’t know whether ṯ can give Armenian š. I also do not really see that “effeminate” is an idea related to debauchery or wantonness. Fay Freak (talk) 21:24, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
