[edit]@ɶLerman: Georgian მარაგი (maragi) that I added as a descendant to Bats მარაგ (marag) has no cognates in other Kartvelian languages. Perhaps there's something in Acharyan, @Vahagn_Petrosyan? კვარია (talk) 14:37, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- @კვარია: Acharyan only recalls that
{{R:ka:Chub}}
derives მარაგა (maraga)[sic] from Old Armenian մառախ (maṙax) (a misspeling of մառախուղ (maṙaxuł)), and that{{R:ka:Chub2}}
derives მარაგი (maragi) from unspecified Armenian. Gippert in footnote 22 suspects მარაგი (maragi) is a ghostword created by Orbeliani under the influence of Old Armenian մառախուղ (maṙaxuł) but your discovery of the Bats connection proves it is not. Vahag (talk) 16:23, 23 November 2024 (UTC)- Saba recorded a ton of dialectal words. If a word isn't attested in Old Georgian and/or Middle Georgian, I'd first check dialects before dubbing something a ghostword like Gippert did. კვარია (talk) 07:34, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- So Kartvelologists are supposed to know how to use Georgian dictionaries? What's next, learning Georgian? Vahag (talk) 10:49, 24 November 2024 (UTC)

- @Vahagn_Petrosyan, კვარია: I am still in communication with Johanna Nichols to ascertain whether there may have been an error in the Chechen form, specifically a long vowel. The borrowings appear to show such a Proto-Nakh form. But development in the descendants causes difficulties. Although these forms have unrelated doublets in structure. :/ ɶLerman (talk) 19:48, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- OK, she wrote that it wasn't a typo. ɶLerman (talk) 09:18, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
