[edit]From *po- + *čiti,[1] from the root *kʷyeh₁-. Akin to Sanskrit चिर (cirá, “long”), Avestan 𐬱𐬁𐬌𐬙𐬌𐬨 (šāitim, “happiness”), Latin quiēs (“rest”), Latin tranquīlus, tranquillus (“tranquil”), Proto-Germanic *hwīlō (“pause, while”).
