[edit]See *gъlbь. Cognate with Old Prussian gulbis (“swan”), Lithuanian gulbìs (“swan”), Latvian gùlbis (“swan”). Also compare with Ancient Greek κόλυμβος (kólumbos, “a diver”) (whence also *golǫbь), from κολυμβάω (kolumbáō, “dive, plunge headlong, swim”).
