[edit]From an unattested *glьti (“to mud”) + *-ьba, continuing Proto-Indo-European *gley- (“to stick, to glue”). Akin to Proto-Germanic *klibą (“cliff”).
Parallel to Proto-Slavic *glyba (“mud, ooze”) from *glew- (“to conglomerate, to gather into a mass”).
