Etymology

Per ESSJa, likely of onomatopoeic origin, probably a dialectal variation of *brъzgati. A similar grade variation is observed in South-Central Slavic *prъskati : Northern Slavic *pryskati (“to spray”).

Morphologically equivalent of Proto-Slavic *brudъ (“mud, dirt”) / *brugъ (unattested) + *-skati, ultimately an extension of Proto-Indo-European *bʰrew- (“to brew”).
