[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćāčáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱok-éye-ti, from *ḱek- (“to be able, capable”) + *-éyeti. Compare Old Irish cécht (“might, power”),[1] Sanskrit शक् (śak, “to be able”).[2]
