Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *ḱwṓ (dog). In late Proto-Indo-Iranian, *kútas displaces this inherited word, with reflexes such as Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀢 (kutta) and Proto-Iranian *kútah.
