[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *swelH- (“to burn”). Cognate with Lithuanian svìlti (“to singe”), Latvian svals (“vapor, smoke”), Ancient Greek εἵλη (heílē, “warmth of the sun”), and possibly Old Armenian նքողիմ (nkʻołim, “to be parched, dried, tired, unwell”).[1]
