[edit]An a-stem of *neutaną (“to use, make use of; to enjoy”) (with original meaning likely "utilizable (cattle)"), from Proto-Indo-European *newd- (“to acquire, make use of”).[1] Cognate with Lithuanian naudà (“utility, usefulness, note”).
