[edit]From Proto-Finno-Ugric *le- (“to become”). Cognate to Proto-Samic *leatēk (“to be”), Hungarian lesz (“to become”), and in certain conjugations of Hungarian van (“to be, exist”) (lenni, leszek, lenne, légy, etc.).
