Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/karhu
Appearance
Proto-Finnic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Most likely a euphemistic derivation from *karhëda (“rough, coarse”) + *-u. Alternatively (through earlier *karša-) a possible loan from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hŕ̥ćšas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ŕ̥tḱos.
