Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic/slānos
Appearance
Proto-Celtic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *solh₂-, but Matasović and others list entirely different cognate sets to each other:
- Matasović lists Latin sōlor (“to comfort, soothe”), Ancient Greek ἱλάσκομαι (hiláskomai, “to appease”) and Gothic 𐍃𐌴𐌻𐍃 (sēls, “good, kind”);[1]
- Delamarre lists Latin salvus, Ancient Greek ὅλος (hólos), and Sanskrit सर्व (sarva),[2] all meaning "whole".
