[edit]Trivia
[edit]- It is a commonly repeated myth that the frequency of the surname Nguyễn in modern Vietnam is due to mass conversion during the start of the reign of Nguyễn lords and the Nguyễn dynasty. This can easily be debunked by looking at historical records from before the reign of Nguyễn lords in Đàng Trong and the Nguyễn dynasty, which show Nguyễn as a surname being similarly common. For example, on Thái Hoà lục niên Mậu Thìn khoa tiến sĩ đề danh bi kí (太和六年戊辰科進士題名碑記), recording the imperial examination of 1448, among 27 laureates, 11 (40%) of them bore the surname of Nguyễn.
