[edit]Compound of kibbelen (“squable, fight”) and veen (“peat bog, marsh”). The toponym refers to a marsh which was the subject of a boundary dispute. Compare Cabauw, Hebrecht, Kijfhoek, Kijfwaard, Kibbelgaarn, Krakeel, Krakeelpolder, Schellach and Strijkviertel.
