[edit]Borrowed from Biblical Hebrew חֲבַקּוּק (Ḥăḇaqqūq). The name perhaps comes from חָבַק (Ḥāḇaq, “embrace”), or perhaps from Akkadian 𒄩𒄠𒁀𒄣𒄣 (Ḫambaqūqu [Ḫa-am-ba-qu-qu], “garden herb”).
