[edit]Uncertain; possibly comes from חָבַק (ḥāḇaq, “embrace”), from the root ח־ב־ק (“embrace”) or perhaps from Akkadian 𒄩𒄠𒁀𒄣𒄣 (ḫambaqūqu [ḫa-am-ba-qu-qu], “garden herb”).
