Etymology

Sino-Vietnamese word from 猶太 (“Judea; Jewish”), from Mandarin 猶太 / 犹太 (Yóutài). Compare Korean 유대 (Yudae, “Judea; Jewish”). Doublet of Giu-đê (“Judea”) and Giu-dêu (“Jewish ~ Jews (obsolete)”).

     On the nights of 9 and 10 November 1938, the Nazis instigated the Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass), during which 91 Jews were murdered and their properties confiscated. Besides, Jewish synagogues were destroyed, and 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration camps.
