Sino-Vietnamese word from 菩薩, from Chinese 菩薩 / 菩萨 (púsà, bodhisattva). While there are many bodhisattvas, the Bodhisattva remains Quan Âm (Avalokiteshvara; Guanyin). Compare Phật (a buddha; the Buddha) and Chúa (a lord; the Lord).
