Dutch hypocoristic forming

[edit]

In Dutch a typical hypocoristic forming is to truncate the whole name and add a K, P or a S to it. Miek, Mieke, Miep and Mies are some examples.

The Dutch diminutive and hypocoristic form is je. Words and names with a final consonant m get a p for the diminutive je. And after vocals a t is inserted.

Frisian male hypocoristic forming

[edit]

Also in Friesland (a Dutch province where they speak their own language, Frisian) exists that typical Germanic hypocoristic pet form forming. It is strongly influenced by the way adults speak to their children and the way children imitate their adults' spoken words.
