Etymology

[edit]

Found suffixed exclusively to verbs loaned from Latin verbs in the first conjugation, -ō, -āre, hence likely itself borrowed from Latin -āta n pl (-ed things). Compare gjykatë (court), akin to Romanian judecată (judgement; court), and note also Italian -ata often used found in the same deverbal scope.
