[edit]Equivalent to Ancient Greek -ουργός (-ourgós); from Proto-Hellenic *worgós, ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European root *werǵ- (“to work”). Compare also Ancient Greek ἔργον (érgon) < ϝέργον (wérgon).
