Prakrit

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Sanskrit अवकृष्ट (avakṛṣṭa, dragged down), from अव- (ava-) +‎ कृष्ट (kṛṣṭa), with the same irregular voicing as in 𑀓𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀇 (kaḍḍhaï, to pull); see there for more discussion.[1] By surface analysis, 𑀑- (o-) +‎ 𑀓𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀇 (kaḍḍhaï). Cognate with Pali okaḍḍhati, Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit ओकड्ढ (okaḍḍha).[2]
