Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *egir- (to spin), from Proto-Turkic *eg- (to bend). Cognate with Old Uyghur 𐽰𐽺𐽷𐽶𐽾𐽹𐽰𐽷 (äŋirmäk), Khalaj heyirmək, Turkish eğirmek, Uzbek yigirmoq. Compare also Mongolian ээрэх (eerex), a Turkic borrowing.
