[edit]From Proto-Saka *mauka (“hero, tiger”) (compare with Khotanese mauya, muyi (“tiger”); Sogdian 𐼺𐼷𐼴 (myu), 𐫖𐫏𐫇 (myu, “tiger”)).[1] Cognate with Ancient Greek Μαύης (Maúēs); compare with 𐨨𐨅𐨬𐨐𐨁 (mevaki).
