From Proto-Germanic *luhatjanΔ…, whence also Old High German lohazan (β€œto gleam”). Equivalent to the zero grade of the root of 𐌻𐌹𐌿𐌷𐌰𐌸 (liuhaΓΎ) +‎ -πŒ°π„πŒΎπŒ°πŒ½ (-atjan).
