Etymology

[edit]

See etymology at ᄀᆞᆷᄌᆞᆨ (komcok) for the first element. —하다 (-hada) is a regular adjective-deriving suffix.

As late as the late nineteenth century, 깜찍하다 (kkamjjikhada, “to be adorable”) was synonymous with 끔찍하다 (kkeumjjikhada, “to be atrocious”). The former underwent a semantic shift in the early twentieth century, aided by the nuances associated with its yang vowel.

Equivalent to 깜찍 (kkamjjik) +‎ 하다 (-hada, to do, light verb deriving adjectives).
