Etymology

From the Analects, Book 7 (《論語·述而》):

子曰：「飯疏食飲水，曲肱而枕之，樂亦在其中矣。不義而富且貴，於我如浮雲。」 [Classical Chinese, trad.]

子曰：「饭疏食饮水，曲肱而枕之，乐亦在其中矣。不义而富且贵，于我如浮云。」 [Classical Chinese, simp.]

Zǐyuē: “Fàn shūshí yǐn shuǐ, qū gōng ér zhěn zhī, lè yì zài qízhōng yǐ. Bùyì ér fù qiě guì, yú wǒ rú fúyún.” [Pinyin]

The Master said, "With coarse rice to eat, with water to drink, and my bended arm for a pillow; I have still joy in the midst of these things. Riches and honors acquired by unrighteousness, are to me as a floating cloud."
