( archaic ) The hiragana syllable ゑ ( e ) . Its equivalent in katakana is ヱ ( e ) . It is the forty-sixth syllable in the gojūon order; its position is わ行 え段 ( wa-gyō e-dan , “ row wa , section e ” ) .
