[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *ehonts, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁sónts, present participle of *h₁es- (“to be”). Cognate with Latin sōns (“guilty”), Sanskrit सत् (sát, “being, essence, reality”), Albanian gjë (“thing”), English sooth (“true, a fact”).
