[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *sór-mos (compare Old Armenian որմ (orm, “wall, fence”)), from *ser- (“to bind”). Cognate with Ancient Greek εἴρω (eírō, “I tie, fasten”), Latin serō (“I bind”), Proto-Germanic *sarwą (“armour”).
