[edit]From ἄχθομαι (ákhthomai, “to be loaded”) + -ος (-os), which is from Proto-Indo-European *h₂edʰǵʰ- (“to squeeze, (op)press”), the same root of Hittite [script needed] (ḫatk-, “to shut, close”).[1]
