Adjective
[edit]ἄλογον • (álogon)
- inflection of ἄλογος (álogos):
Etymology 2
[edit]Neuter form of ἄλογος (álogos, “unreasoning, speechless”, adjective). Used in the military to differentiate between soldiers—beings with reason and speech—and animals—unreasoning, "ἄλογον ζῷον (álogon zôion)". As soldiers mostly used horses, the meaning has been associated with them. Morphologically ἀ- (a-, “without”) + λόγος (lógos, “reason, speech”).
