From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *la (donkey, ass, mule); cognate with the first syllable of Jingpho [script needed] (lo³¹ kuŋ³³, donkey) (STEDT). Note also similarities to Old Chinese (OC *b·ra, “donkey”).
