From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-raŋ (high; long). Cognate with Nuosu (a hmu, tall, high), Lolopo mu (high, tall) and Drung mrvng (long, tall), Mongsen Ao tə́-hláŋ, Old Chinese (OC *rɯŋ, “mound, hill”) (STEDT).
