Etymology
[edit]From Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer *cren or Angkorian Old Khmer cren (“to celebrate; to develop, to grow; to increase, to proliferate; to promote; to improve; to cultivate; to prosper; to exist or occur in great quantity or number; etc”); extended as caṃren, from which Thai จำเริญ (jam-rəən) is derived. Cognate with Modern Khmer ច្រើន (craən), Lao ຈະເລີນ (cha lœ̄n) or ຈະເຣີນ (cha rœ̄n).
