Etymology

From Old Khmer ច្រេន (cren), Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer *cren; or Angkorian Old Khmer cren (to celebrate; to develop, to grow; to increase, to proliferate; to promote; to improve; to cultivate; to prosper; to exist or occur in great quantity or number; etc); extended as caṃren. Cognate with Thai เจริญ (jà-rəən), Lao ຈະເລີນ (cha lœ̄n) or ຈະເຣີນ (cha rœ̄n).
