From Sanskrit आज्ञा (ājñā, order, command; authority, power); perhaps via Old Khmer ñā, ʼājñā ((royal) order, command, behest; by order (of); highness: constituent of royal titles; etc). Cognate with Modern Khmer អាជ្ញា (ʼaacñaa).
