From Proto-Tai *C̥.ɟɯːnᴬ (“to stand”). Cognate with Lao ຢືນ (yư̄n, “to stand”) and ຍືນ (nyư̄n, “long (time)”), Shan ယိုၼ်း (yúen, “long (time)”), Tai Nüa ᥕᥪᥢᥰ (yüen, “long (time)”), Ahom 𑜊𑜢𑜃𑜫 (jʸin, “long (time)”).
