[edit]Inherited from Gurjara Apabhramsa *सूअर (*sūara) from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀽𑀕𑀭 (sūgara),, from Sanskrit सूकर (sūkara), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *suHkarás, from Proto-Indo-European *suh₂kéh₂ (“pig, swine”). Doublet of સૂકર (sūkar). Cognate with Bengali শুয়োর (śuẏōr), Hindustani سؤر / सूअर (sūar), and Sindhi سُوَرُ (suvaru).
