    Inherited from Old Punjabi ਫਿਰਿ (phiri), from Takka Apabhramsa 𑆦𑆴𑆫𑆅 (phiraï), from Prakrit 𑀨𑀺𑀭𑀇 (phiraï), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀨𑀺𑀭𑀢𑀺 (*phirati).[1]
